FRIENDSHIP IS A GIFT

A wonderful part of life. An unexpected surprise. A friend is a companion, someone you can talk to, who’ll listen and laugh with you. A true friend won’t let you down, but will help you through the rough bits, and carry you through the times when you think you can’t go on. A friend will back you up, won’t run you down or talk behind your back. A friend will love you and your loved ones, but would never take advantage of you or betray you. A friend will keep your innermost secrets safe. Value your beliefs, your dreams. Uphold and honor your morals. Understand you.

 And let you be yourself. And then there are those people who say they are your friends, BUT:

Undermine you
Deplete you
Let you Down
Try to change you
Take away your faith in yourself.

It's these people who are really not your friends and are the ones you have to be careful to let into your life!

Freedom

I was able to focus on me and  finally let go of despair, blame, judgement, fear and shame. I had found a way through the endless cycle of wondering what people were thinking of me, why they didn’t get me, how I could prove myself, explain myself or show them who I really am. Through it all I knew I could

FINALLY STOP WORRYING……..

And to start to live my life in a different way, but I didn’t have to become a different person. I just had to realize how to not only be me but how to let myself be.

For so long I have let the way others see me, think of me, or feel about me affect the way I felt about myself. All these years I have cried so many tears and let others make me feel inferior when all along I had choice to let what they say affect me or not.  No one can make me feel inferior without my consent, yet I let them every time.  It's time I start living my life for GOD and for myself!!

Where there was confusion, I now have clarity;
Where there was despair, I now find hope.
And where I was held to ransom by so many people including myself,
I now have Freedom.

Differences

My trip was an eye opener to so many things! All this time I thought every other country was different when all along it's the USA who is different!  Call me Naive, but I realized that we are the ONLY country that doesn't use the metric system.

I had to learn how to convert::
lbs into kg
milies into km
feet into meters
gallons into liters
lbs into stones
Celsius into Farienheit

I learned that:
Boot= trunk
Chemist= pharmacy
Bonnet= hood
bloak=man
bloody=damn
buggars=darn
barbie=BBQ
Spag=Spaghetti

Their money is plastic so if you wash it it won't tear.  They don't have pennies or $1.00 bills.  If an amount comes out to pennies they either round up or down, but if you pay with a debit/credit card it will be billed for the exact amount.  It is CRAZY expensive to live and eat there.  For instance 1kg of ground meet will cost you 15.00 and a dozen of eggs cost 6.50.  Their gas is over 5.00 a gallon and you can bring alcohol into a facility that doesn't serve it.  I drove a couple of times and finally got use to the fact that I wasn't going to die on the wrong side of the road.  Our deer is like their kangaroo.  You have to watch out for them at dawn and dusk, as they are dumber than deer.  Deer at least look at you, Kangaroo just jump with no clue to where they are going.

There are so much more diffferences, but these are just a few, so if you are in the land down under, I hope you are rich, know how to convert and watch for Kangaroo!

Day 23 til Home

Day 23 Tuesday Jan. 7th 2010
Today we went to the Dendy Theater to see Avatar in 3D.  They have a theater where the seats are lounge chairs and you order off of a menu and they bring you what you want at the time you want it.  Unfortunately the premium theater was sold out, but the regular theater seating was just as nice.  The seats were about as wide as a seat on a couch and they had thick arm rest so you don't touch the other person.  It was cool.

Day 24 Wed. Jan. 6 2010
Today is our last day here. It’s bitter sweet. I’m hoping that Aunt Paula and Uncle Chip have not one regret of bringing us here. I have enjoyed every min. of my stay! We went to the Old Parliament House and saw Sue. She works here and then we went to the New Parliament House. It was very fancy! Aunt Paula made mom and me a calendar of everything we have done and laminated it. Walky came over for dinner. Mom wanted pork chops so that’s what we had. All our luggage is packed and ready to go. We will have to be up at 415 in the morning and leave by 5 . I don’t want to leave the warm weather, but I do miss my kids. I will miss the warm weather, the birds and doing things I have never done before! I will NEVER forget this trip! Ever.

Day 25 Thursday Jan. 7th 2010
Today I was up bright and early at 4 am since we had to be at the airport for 530.  As usual, I was pulled aside to be checked for explosives.  I swear I have check me written on me somewhere.  Boarded the plane for Brisbane and landed on time at 705 am.  Took a bus from the domestic airport to the international airport where we went to the gate until we were all pushed back to be re-screened because we were going to LAX.  I will give thanks to the Nigerian man who caused this mess.  It was just pure Havoc. They MADE up the rules as they went.  Lucky me, I was searched twice in 5 hrs...this time they took EVERYTHING out of both my carry on bags and frisked me head to toe.  At least it could have been someone good looking, but NO,....a girl both times.  Our plane was suppose to leave at 1205 but it was over 30 mins late as we had to wait for everyone to get through the make shift security.  13 hours later we landed in LAX.  Since we took off late, we landed late and between customs, waiting 15 mins for our bags, walking a mile, and having to check back in we missed out 9 am flight (mind you this is STILL Jan. 7th starting all over again).  The next flight out wasn't until noon so we didn't get into Houston until 5 pm.  Travis met us at the airport and I stayed the night at mom's, just to get back up and do it all over again, except this time I went from Houston, Chicago to Nashville.  It is SO COLD HERE!

Day 22 Monday Jan. 4th 2010 Sydney Trip

Day 22 Monday Jan. 4th 2010

Today we woke up bright and early at 430 am. Had to be at the Canberra Railway Station for 630 to catch our train leaving at 643 am. It was John, Ariel, Uncle Chip, Aunt Paula, mom and myself. I saw many kangaroo on our trip as we stopped in every little town imaginable. It was cloudy and rainy, overcast skies the entire time. Arrived in Sydney at 1104 am. Good thing John came along as it was quite confusing. We first caught the tram and rode it all the way down and ½ way back to the fish market where Uncle Chip had the biggest grin on his face and was just in heaven. Here we ate lunch, then caught the train back to George St. which is the main St. in Sydney. From there we caught a bus to Circular Quay where we then caught a ferry to Manly Wharf. We stopped by the ice cream shop for some yummy ice cream. I hit a few shops to pick up some things and found a hoodie I liked. We walked a little further where I was able to see Manly beach and put my feet in the cold water. As we headed back to the ferry the sun came out. Guess better late than never! Caught a train from Manly back to Central where we then caught the Canberra Railway again for our 4 hour trip back. This trip took longer as the train had issues, such as the A/C going out, the lights dimming, having to wait on other trains, etc…. It was a long ride back but an AWESOME day I will never forget! It was Uncle Chip’s first trip to Sydney as well. I think he really loved it. We all came home and crashed as we were all, yep including me, exhausted! What a wonderful way to end the trip. I was able to see the Sydney Harbor Bridge and the Opera House, two of the main attractions in Sydney! It was lovely!

Day 18 Thurs. Dec. 31st - Day 21 Sunday Jan. 3rd

Day 18 Thursday Dec. 31, 2009

Today we went to the Australian War Museum. I saw the tomb of the unnamed soldier and all the different wars. It was pretty interesting. We were suppose to go to Alan and Jerde place for New Years Eve, but we decided not to go since we weren’t going there until 9. Mom and Uncle Chip went to be and I stayed up to watch the Sydney fireworks on TV. They shoot them from the Sydney Harbor Bridge. It was pretty spectacular. I would have loved to have been on one of the yachts in the harbor. It was beautiful! Happy New Year to me, as I rang it in, once again by myself. No one to kiss, just me! I hope to have a great year!

Day 19 Friday Jan. 1st 2010

Today we took a road trip to Snowy mountains passing through Bredbo, Cooma and Jindabyne where we saw Lake Jindabyne. This is such a beautiful lake! We stopped in Cooma for lunch and ate at the park under huge trees. Aunt Paula and I walked to the tourist center but it was closed so we went to a dollar store type shop. We were looking for magnets but we found Australian flag tattoos instead and went to the bathroom and put them on the inside of our forearm to see how long it would take for mom or Uncle Chip to notice. It took about 2 hours for them to notice…LOL. On the way to the snowy mountains we sang all kinds of old songs like Oh Suzanna, Kumbahya, Our Bonnie lies over the Ocean, She’ll be coming around the mountain, Waltzing Matilida, and more. I would start singing a song and they would finish it as I didn’t know ½ of the words. It was like an old movie where they were taking road trips….that’s exactly what we were doing, taking a “Road Trip” and making memories. We went to Gaden Trout Hatchery where you learned how they bread rainbow and brown trout, and salmon. It was very interesting to watch and then we took a tour around the hatchery and fed the fish in the ponds. We stopped back in Cooma on the way back and had a little snack again. It was a great day!

Day 20 Saturday Jan. 2, 2010

Today we went to the National Museum of Australia. This place is huge and pretty neat! We had reservations at the Hyatt of Canberra and Uncle Chip’s potassium level was getting high, so we needed to go. The Hotel was beautiful and fancy and the food was great. We brought Uncle Chip home so he could start dialysis and off again we went. Aunt Paula brought us back to the Mint so we could Mint 2010 $1 coins. This is a special year because it has the 4 Monarchs and it’s the 100th year since they started minting their own coins. It also has a C on it to show that it was minted in Canberra. This will be a once in a lifetime coin and we got it on the 2nd of Jan. 2010. We then went back to the gift shop at the Museum where I found Logan a digeridoo and clap sticks. I haven’t gotten much for Logan, so I’m glad I found this. I also picked up a snow globe for Alexis just in case I didn’t find any in Sydney. She then took us up to Mt Ainslie and Red Hill where you could see the entire layout of Canberra from different sides of the City. We then went to Mt. Stromlo where they observatory was. This Mt. caught fire several years back and the trees are still trying to recover from the loss. Wouldn’t you know for my evening walk I found about 50 Kangaroos and within those Kangaroos I spotted 3 with Joeys in their pouches, and guess what I didn’t have! MY CAMERA! LOL! What a great day!

Day 21 Sunday Jan. 3rd 2010

Today we were going to the DENDY premium theater to see Avatar but they were sold out. This premium theater is different because it has seats that lay back and a menu that you can order from and they bring food and drinks to you! We have tickets booked to go see Avatar in 3D on Tuesday instead. While I’m there I’m going to see if I can get a sneak peek into the premium theater to take a quick picture. We had a wonderful Porter House Steak for Lunch. My body isn’t going to know what to do when I get back home after eating so great for a month. I’m sure going to miss Aunt Paula, Uncle Chip and this wonderful weather!

Day 13 Dec. 26- Day 17 Wed. Dec. 30th

Day 13 Sat. Dec. 26, 2009

Today was just a rainy lazy day!

Day 14 Sun. Dec. 27, 2009

Today we went to the Sue and David’s farm where they cooked a huge spread of food. Marg, who is Aunt Paula’s friend was there and it was nice that she was able to visit as she is dying. Sue had one of the largest lilies I have ever seen before in my life. It was nice and relaxing

Day 15, Monday Dec. 28, 2009

Today wasn’t the best day to start off with. I was really upset because of Shelby. Uncle Chip cooked Laksa for a group of friends. Mom tried it but it didn’t like her and she didn’t like it. Choo Yee, Karen, Guan Hoc, his wife Mai, and John came over and ate. Listening to the story of Guan Hoc and how the length it took to come to Australia is just amazing and listening to the superstitions they have is crazy, like the number 4 is a taboo number and if you get hit by a broom, it brings bad luck. I really enjoyed meeting these great people. Oh I learned how to eat with chopsticks. Ok well I’m not perfect by no means, but I didn’t use my fork at all.

Day 16 Tuesday Dec. 29, 2009

Uncle Chips knees were really hurting today, so he stayed home. Aunt Paula took us to the Civic Center to go shopping and they had this amazing store that Everything in it is made in Australia. I bought a few things thinking I could find something somewhere else, but the National Geographic store didn’t have anything worth buying. I did manage to scoop up some calendars of the Australian Wildlife. Uncle Chip made another wonderful pot of beans that we ate up when we got home.

Day 17 Wed. Dec. 30, 2009

Today we went to the Pork Barrel restaurant to meet Aunt Paula’s friend Judy, Sydney and Judy’s father Bernard Campbardt. We picked up Aunt Paula’s mom Maureen as well. They had a beautiful rose garden with all different color roses, including a lavender color rose. I walked around some fountains in front of the Old Parliament Building. After lunch we dropped Maureen back off, and brought Uncle Chip back home to start dialysis, then off we went to Federal Square. It was very disappointing because they didn’t have much shops but we did stop by an aboriginal painting shop. Aunt Paula brought us back to the Australian shop in the Civic Center where I bought things for Brooklyn, James Wendy, Tani, Landon, and myself. I picked up a shirt for Alexis and a shirt and sweatshirt for Logan yesterday. I still need to find Alexis a snow globe so I hope I can find that in Sydney. Mom bought Logan a boomerang, and Alexis a necklace. I still think I need to find something for Logan as well. Back at home now and watching the Crimson Rosellas eat the bird seed from the table. They were taking a bath this morning and it was neat to watch them.

Tuesday Day 9- Saturday Dec. 26th

Day 9 Tuesday Dec. 22, 2009

Today was a lazy day. We went to Walky’s at 3:30. The water was warm enough to swim in the pool and it was so refreshing. He cooked a spread. We had these little things that look like Hotdogs, Tiger Prawns, salad, cole slaw, porter house steak and little custard like desserts. It was a nice day! I like Walky.

Day 10 Wednesday Dec. 23, 2009

Today we went to the Australian Royal Government Mint. This is where they make all of the money. It was neat getting to see the process and then I made 3 $1.00 Australian coins for the kids that cost $3.00 each. Hmmm talk about inflation. We went to the University House for 5:30 to meet up with all of their friends. The same ones that were at the Thai Spice the first day we got here. John, Jenny, Kathy, John, Choo yee (I call him Chewy, and Auriel. Saw a Momma and Papa Duck and their 5 babies. The papa was trying to attack anyone that came close. It was a nice day.

Day 11 Thursday Dec. 24, 2009

Just a lazy day. Aunt Paula went secret girl shopping.

Day 12 Friday Dec. 25, 2009

Happy Birthday Jesus. Aunt Paula was up at 515 to start the pork roast. She and mom decorated the dining room table last night. It was beautiful. We had a wonderful spread of food and great friends. Karen, Tim, Walky, Maureen, all came over to celebrate Christmas dinner. Karen bought mom some pearl earrings and she bought me the most beautiful pearl necklace I have ever seen. Aunt Paula bought mom a lovely coin set with animals on it and she bought me the astronomy set. It was such a wonderful gift! I love it. I met Karen’s friend Tim and we all had a great time. The BEST Christmas present of all times is the trip to Australia itself. I have no idea how I can ever repay them for the generosity they have shown me and mom. I’m so blessed and grateful and I will be for the rest of my life. This is a beautiful country and I’m taking everything in while I can. The weeks are flying by and it will be time to go home before I know it. This will be a Christmas I will always remember and I hope the same goes for Mom, Uncle Chip and Aunt Paula. It is a dream come true!! More than I could ever have imagined. Thank you!
